MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

The Iraqi Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is established with a primary objective—to unite diverse stakeholders including the public sector, civil society, technical community and academia, private sector, and international organizations. Our mission is to facilitate open, multilateral, democratic, and transparent discussions on critical public policy issues related to the Internet, emphasizing security in the virtual environment. Our primary objectives include:

Raising Awareness: Enhancing understanding and awareness of internet governance-related issues among stakeholders in Iraq.
Facilitating CollaborationProviding a platform for multistakeholder discussions, idea exchanges, and collaborative initiatives.
Global ConnectionBridging perspectives between the Iraqi community and the global IGF agenda, ensuring our voices are heard on the global stage.

SECRETARIAT AND KEY ROLE

The neutral secretariat of the IGF is entrusted to Technology organization for Peace, a non-governmental organization committed to supporting and promoting the development of an open, secure, trustworthy, and unified global Internet in Iraq.

Main Goals of IGF

Stakeholder Involvement and Capacity Buildin- Point out opportunities for stakeholder involvement in Internet governance processes.
- Encourage dialogue and provide assistance, if necessary, in capacity building for better understanding Internet-related topics.
Active Participation in Internet Governance Processes- Empower and inspire all stakeholders in Iraq to actively participate in national, regional, and international Internet governance processes.
Identification of Local Internet Governance Topics:- Identify Internet governance topics that are crucial and pertinent to the context of Iraq.

KEY FOCUS AREA

Consolidation of Stakeholders:

- Bring together stakeholders from various sectors to engage in open dialogues and discussions.
- Foster collaboration between the public sector, civil society, technical community and academia, private sector, and international organizations.

Protection of Fundamental Rights:

- Advocate for the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms on the Internet.
- Support democratic processes and the rule of law in the digital realm.

Internet Governance Implementation:

- Promote the implementation of Internet governance principles with the active participation of all stakeholders.
- Advocate for the harmonization of international regulations and local legislation.

Enhancement of Internet Users' Rights:

- Support the enhancement of Internet users' rights and capabilities.
- Promote the universalization of the Internet, ensuring accessibility for all.

ANNUAL MEETING

Each year, we host the IGF Iraq Annual Meeting, bringing together experts, practitioners, and enthusiasts to discuss, collaborate, and contribute to the evolving landscape of internet governance. Our events cover a spectrum of topics, from policy considerations to technical advancements, all aimed at shaping a more inclusive and secure digital future for Iraq.
